Alien: Covenant Leaves Little To The Imagination

Alien: Covenant Leaves Little To The Imagination

If you’re looking for a movie to watch this month, chances are you’ve come across Alien: Covenant and you’re wondering if it’s worth the hype.

The first thing to know is that the movie is a sequel to the 2014 movie, Prometheus and is the sixth overall movie in the Alien series. Some however count it to be the eight movie in the Alien series, as they include the Alien vs. Predator movies.

This science fiction horror flick is directed by Ridley Scott who is known for exciting movies including Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Hannibal, American Gangster and more recently, The Martian. The movie which was released on May 19 makes for interesting watch but how captivating is it? NB: Spoilers Ahead.

Story Quality Is Poor

From an objective point of view, the story of Alien: Covenant offers nothing that is any different from the past alien movies. The movie appears patched together from a number of its predecessors including Alien, Prometheus, and even Blade Runner, even though Ridley Scott makes the movie worth watching.

The movie pretty much starts like the previous installments where some characters are woken up to unexpected events which requires an investigation, and the discovery of a horrid monster.

The movie attempts to create striking imagery right out of a story based on horrific caves filled with creepy specimens and subtly spooky alien attacks.

Horrific Violence Pervades The Movie

If you’re a fan of horror movies, you have little to worry about as the movie provides you with enough horror and violence to feed your appetite. Alien: Covenant has lots of blood and gore presented in the most graphic manner as aliens can be seen bursting from body cavities.

The violence is turned up a notch higher with the graphic burning alive and charred remains that can be seen afterwards and a separate beheading.

Certain characters can be seen vomiting and spewing blood, just as faces are burned with acid. Some bit of action is thrown into the mix with fighting, kicking, stabbing, as well as shooting and explosions.

There’s a graphic sex scene which perhaps justifies the movie classification, especially since there’s also smoking and drinking.

Is It Worth Watching?
Definitely. If you’re into science fiction and horror, you’d enjoy it. Despite the violence and gory nature of the movie, it is worth seeing the battle between the Neomorphs (aliens seen at the end of the Prometheus movie) and the Xenomorphs.

The regurgitation of alien embryos which were placed in cold storage alongside human embryos provides a chilling end to the movie, especially with a recording stating that all crew members but one were killed by the neutrino blast at the beginning of the film.

Watch the movie if you can, you’d probably have little regret doing so.
